We do not believe in the validity of this species, considered as
a regional endemic for the lower rocky areas of the Meridional
Carpathians (especially Cozia and Olt defile area). It looks to us
like Dianthus carthusianorum L. var. saxigenus
Schur. It can be considered as a regional variety or
as the highest rank, a weakly delimited subspecies. Its main
characters (flowers in clusters of one to six, cauline leaves
shorter than the internodes, all leaves narrower than 1 mm) point
towards a variety.
